FANTASIED NARRATIONS MUSES

A search for aesthetics that affects the human soul. It is this penetrating feeling that appears through Liliwenn’s artworks. She chose a figurative way of expression and her work reveals essentially female subjects ruling on an oneiric universe composed of allegories with enigmatic details that are spread about as keys entrusted to the spectator.

Timeless figures, her heroines are sometimes warrior-like without any warlike intentions. Despite a perceptible fragility, we like to imagine them rebellious and authentic, ready to do every fight to defend their ideals. The omnipresent nudity crystallises a kind of iconography of what is universal, witness to the primitive and instinctive dimension, to this vulnerability which refers to the essence of the being. Talk about oneself to talk about everyone, this is the way the artist confides a bit of herself in her artwork, leaving the spectator free to find a glimpse of their own image, through an appropriation of the sensitive realm sending them back to their private experiences. Punctuating her world with recurring elements (threads, cogwheels, masks…), in reference to the condition of people in our modern society, she sows the seeds of a debate on the place of Man and the roles they are brought to play throughout their existence. It is a tension applied onto contrasts, in which the characters seem to be both under constraint and under protection; the border between safety and fetters is disintegrating. What about our own reality ?
